He’s done it!

On July 16th, 2024, Scott Morley, our own Traybakes adventurer based in Penrith, embarked on a remarkable journey. He set off from Hendaye, a town nestled on the French-Spanish border at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, with just an 11kg rucksack containing food, water, a couple of his favourite traybakes, and a fierce determination to succeed.

His goal: Conquer the Pyrenean Haute Route, a challenging trail that stretches 800 km (494 miles) across the Pyrenees from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean.

As a reminder

The Pyrenean Haute Route is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and tough terrain. It spans the main ridges between France, Spain, and Andorra, offering two primary routes: the GR10 on the French side and the GR11, which crosses into Spain. Scott’s chosen path is favoured by hikers for its stunning scenery, particularly through the Ordesa Valley, though it demands respect for its unpredictable weather and challenging conditions.

Some challenges along the way

During his trek, Scott was joined by his partner, Megan, in Lescun as they tackled the “big mountains” referred to as the second section. Despite facing snowfields, steep rocky terrain, and illness from possibly drinking stream water, they pressed on with determination. By Section Four, they navigated the remote areas of Catalonia and Andorra, battling thunderstorms and the elements.

The final part

In the final leg of his journey, Scott conquered the highest peaks of the Eastern Pyrenees, including Pic Carlit and Pic Canigou. Despite the mountains’ lower elevations, the intense heat and rugged terrain made the final days particularly tough. But on August 26th, Scott triumphantly reached Banyuls-sur-Mer, where he celebrated by diving into the Mediterranean Sea and enjoying a well-deserved cold beer.

To conclude

In just 42 days, Scott covered 936 km and ascended 53,100 meters, a truly outstanding feat. The entire team at Traybakes is incredibly proud of Scott’s determination and perseverance in completing this amazing challenge.
