Our love for chocolate is all consuming so it is being celebrated internationally on Friday 13th September.
While there are many reasons why we love chocolate the taste needs no introduction, there are also a lot of health benefits to chocolate you may or may not be aware of.
Feel good chemicals
The chemicals found in chocolate have been extensively researched, and chocolate contains many chemicals that are known to trigger the release of feel-good hormones such as endorphins, dopamine, and serotonin. The same chemicals are released when we fall in love! These chemicals interact with pleasure receptors in our brains and can make us feel happier and more relaxed. When combined with cocoa the main component of chocolate and some other ingredients make the taste amazing too.
Stimulating
Cocoa beans also contain phenylethylamine, which is a natural stimulant that produces feelings of euphoria and pleasure.

Anandamide, the name comes from the Sanskrit word Ananda, which translates to means “joy, bliss, and delight.” Cocoa is rich in anandamide. It is a natural chemical which is known to regulate mood whilst producing feelings of euphoria, pleasure, and relaxation. Chocolate tastes great and goes well with many other foods too!
