Overcoming challenges whilst making steady progress.
Traybakes Scott Morley’s latest update he shares the challenges and triumphs he and his partner, Megan have encountered during their journey across the Pyrenean Haute Route. After reaching Gavarnie in Section Two, they began the more demanding Section Three, which stretches from Gavarnie to Salardu. This part of the hike presented new obstacles, including navigating through several small snowfields on the high cols.
For those unfamiliar, a “high col” (or saddle) refers to the lowest point of a ridge between two peaks, or the highest point between the ground on either side of a ridge. Scott described how he and Megan had to scramble through steep, rocky terrain to overcome some of the snowfields.
However, the journey took a toll when Scott and Megan fell ill, possibly from drinking stream water after reaching Salardu. As a result, they had to rest and delay their hike by a day to recover. Despite feeling weak, they bounced back and resumed their journey with determination.
Scott and Megan have now completed Section Four, arriving in l’Hospitalet-pres-l’Andorre. This section was less technically challenging but took them through some of the most remote areas of Catalonia and around Andorra. Navigating unpredictable weather, including thunderstorms, and getting a little wet which added to the difficulty, but they pressed on.
Despite these setbacks, Scott shared that they are now planning their final section, looking forward to celebrating with well-deserved wine by the Mediterranean. They aim to complete the hike by the end of August.
We are thrilled to hear that Scott plans to return to work in September. His resilience and perseverance are truly commendable, and we at Traybakes are incredibly proud of what he and Megan have accomplished.
